The Meaning of Xmas

Some folks hate Christmas. They have an actual dislike of the holiday.
Much of the time that comes from the overall nature of the capitalist machine, and that machine’s taking full advantage of what used to be a simple, small time of the year.

A time to stop for a bit, reflect on the past years bounty with those humans that mean the most to you.
Most people have this problem, as do I, of not pulling focus. Looking at something in it’s entirety and either getting overwhelmed by it or made to feel resentment towards it. Instead of not appreciating the aspects that may not be insidious.
Take what you love about the holiday, if you actually do like something about it. Not everyone has to take part in spending money they don’t have, or just shouldn’t spend.
But, maybe there are three or four persons in your life that you really wouldn’t mind spending a piddly amount of money on.
A couple cards or fun trinkets, or a hang-out getting chinese food just talking and enjoying being in each others company.
Not everyone has to listen to Nat King Cole, and Frank Sinatra, and Johnny Cash covers of Xmas songs, but you can. Not everyone has to have a mantle set up with stockings and milk and cookies, even if you don’t have kids. But, that sounds like fun.
You don’t have to sit next to the window on a snowy night lit up by street lights and neighbourhood decorations, reading A Christmas Carol with cocoa, or Rum Nog. But, I kinda want to.
If you have rational reasons for having negative feelings towards Xmas, obviously that’s okay. Maybe you have had bad past experiences around Xmas, were just always indifferent towards it, or simply weren’t brought up with it.
But, perhaps you’re just not taking advantage of a beautiful and heartwarming time of the year, that can make an otherwise dreary and workaday existence a little bit brighter.
