On Being Creative

Art, in all forms, comes from having extreme emotional experiences. You know, those things We All have had.

It’s a coping mechanism so one can live with whatever madness Life dealt them, and be able to keep moving forward.

All it really is, to oversimplify it, is a way for us to process pain. That’s why people are compelled by paintings, structures, woodwork, poetry, music, film, books, stand-up comedy, all of it.

It speaks to us because a person reached within themselves and pulled something out.

Maybe because they wanted to see what was in there, or maybe they felt there were no other options in that moment in life but to express themselves creatively.

I believe that often a big part of that expression is an unconscious (or for some, an extremely conscious) plea to the world that someone understand. Because we want to know that we aren’t alone. To know that we aren’t the only ones who feel the particular type of pain we each carry with us every day.

So, if you really think that you aren’t creative, I think you should go deeper. And, immerse yourself with whatever type of creative output from others which jives with your brain.

There is literally no reason not to.
